“The attack on the Consulate General in Munich and now the revealed attack plans against the Israeli Embassy in Berlin have shaken the sense of security of all Jews living in Germany. This situation is unacceptable,” declared Luca Hezel, Chairman of Christians Standing with Israel (CSI), after the attack plans against the Israeli Embassy became public. He added, “We call on all relevant political actors to resolutely confront the dangers to Jewish people and thus also the dangers to our free society – in word and deed.”
Both targets were among the best-guarded in Germany. Besides the aim of causing extensive damage, such attack plans also seek to severely undermine the sense of security of Jews and Israelis in Germany. "The German government must counter this with all available means," demanded Hezel. Christians standing with Israel are grateful that the attack plot against the embassy was uncovered in time.
On Saturday, the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Bernau near Berlin arrested a rejected asylum seeker from Libya who allegedly planned an armed attack on the Israeli embassy. On September 5, an 18-year-old from Austria fired several shots at the Israeli consulate general in Munich. No one was injured in the attack. The gunman was neutralized by security forces and later died of his injuries.
