Things moved faster than expected: After Luca Hezel surprisingly announced his resignation as chairman of Christians on the Side of Israel (CSI) at the end of last year, his designated successor has now been determined: The theologian Christian Frach, who holds a doctorate

After Luca Hezel announced his decision to step down as Chairman of CSI later that year, the search for a successor began promptly. The position was publicly advertised in December, and by the end of January, approximately 25 applications had been received.
The selection process was conducted by an eight-member CSI panel consisting of board members, management, and department heads, with the support of an external coach. This was followed by engaging interviews with several candidates, an internal reflection period, and a joint evaluation – with a clear outcome. Markus Neumann, CSI's second chairman, summarizes it this way: "It was a fascinating process. We are very grateful that Christian Frach emerged as the ideal candidate, presenting himself as a clear and consistent candidate. In the end, we were all convinced: He is the right person for this role."
The final decision is still subject to confirmation by the general assembly at the end of June. The CSI board unanimously proposes Christian Frach for election.
Christian Frach most recently served as pastor of the Free Evangelical Church in Moosburg, Bavaria. He also works as a coach and as the founder and leader of a house of prayer. His dissertation, titled "The House of Prayer Movement and Israel," reflects his deep interest in and connection to Israel. Both sides view his ability to contribute and further develop his experience at CSI as an answer to prayer and a sign of divine providence.
Luca Hezel remains connected to CSI
Christian Frach began his work at CSI in mid-April, initially on a part-time basis and in close collaboration with Luca Hezel, whose contract expires in the summer. With this orderly transition, CSI aims to ensure the continuity of its work promoting strong Christian-Jewish ties and solidarity with Israel.
Christian Frach finds fitting words for this: “While I come in and accelerate, Luca is finishing his race. It is a moment of recognition, great gratitude and joy for the stretch ahead.”
Joy and gratitude characterize the entire process. Luca Hezel will remain closely connected to CSI in the future, even though a new professional opportunity has opened up for him. Together, they are currently exploring ways for him to retain his skills and knowledge in an advisory capacity for the organization. At the same time, with Christian Frach, a leader has been found who will enable CSI to continue fulfilling its core mission: to be a blessing together – standing with heart and hand by Israel's side.
