Commentary on the situation in Iran: The German government must act!

Old flag of Iran
The lion and sun on the old Iranian flag (until 1979) represented strength, monarchy, and Persian history. For many opposition members today, they symbolize resistance against the regime. Photo: Tijl Vercaemer from Ghent, Flanders (Belgium) | Wikipedia | CC BY 2.0

Christians on the Side of Israel (CSI) condemns in the strongest terms the mass slaughter of innocent civilians in Iran by the criminal regime in Tehran. This terrorist regime is adding further crimes to its long list of torture, oppression, persecution of Christians, exporting terrorism, eliminatory antisemitism, and hatred of Israel through thousands of bloodsheds. The wave of executions and arrests must end!

The first public executions of protesters are scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th. Enough is enough! We call on the German government to finally use all available means to demonstrate its solidarity with the Iranian people and their legitimate protest against a dictatorial and murderous regime through action. The courageous Iranians in the streets need more from us Europeans than empty words while they are subjected to repressive violence!

We condemn the German Federal Government and public broadcasters' days-long silence regarding the protests. Even now, as the Iranian regime unleashes its death squads on the demonstrators, resulting in thousands of deaths, the Federal Government continues to treat the Iranian regime as a legitimate government. This must end!

We call on the Federal Government:

  • To close all Iranian diplomatic missions on German soil and expel the diplomatic staff.
  • Together with our European partners, we want to put the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps on the EU terror list.
  • To impose further sanctions against the Iranian regime and its representatives.
  • Not to issue visas to leaders of the Iranian regime and their families.
  • Support for the Iranian opposition – primarily to maintain their ability to communicate.
