Since Friday, June 13, Israel has been taking decisive military action against a long-standing and increasingly escalating threat: Iran and its nuclear program. The infamous countdown clock in Tehran—a symbol of calls for Israel's destruction—was temporarily stopped. However, the Iranian response to the Israeli airstrikes was alarming.

At the time of writing, Iran has fired more than 400 ballistic missiles at Israel. These weapons are designed to kill and destroy. While many are intercepted, an increasing number are penetrating the targets. A single hit can reduce an entire residential area to rubble. The destruction is devastating: 24 people have been killed so far, more than 800 injured, and more than 5,000 displaced. Emergency shelters are overflowing. Cities are on high alert. Israel is in acute crisis and fighting for its survival.
Since October 7, 2023, we have been providing emergency aid – from food and shelter to trauma treatment and psychological support for children living in daily fear. Today, this aid is more urgent than ever. In the face of this threat, we hold fast to our unwavering hope: Am Israel chai – the people of Israel live. We trust in God's promise in the Holy Scriptures:
The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their refuge in times of trouble. The Lord will stand with them and deliver them; he will deliver them from the wicked and save them, for they take refuge in him. (Psalm 37:39-40)
As Christians standing with Israel, our prayers include the people of Iran, and especially our Iranian brothers and sisters in faith. May the hour of liberation have come for them as well!
