Sometimes life writes stories that are hard to believe. Israeli Shai Pinker survived two life-threatening situations within just three weeks – and has now taken his first step back to life.

The accident that changed everything

It began with a devastating motorcycle accident. A car hit Shai, and his injuries were severe. At the rehabilitation center of Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva, the arduous fight back to life began for the father of three. Day after day, the 42-year-old worked to regain control of his body.

When fate strikes twice

Then came that Thursday that turned everything upside down. Shai was still in the hospital when the sirens wailed – missile alert. Although he couldn't walk, he somehow managed to leave his room. Just seconds later, an Iranian missile struck the very room where he had been lying. Shards of glass and debris covered his bed. For the second time in three weeks, Shai had narrowly escaped death.

The way back

At the Kaylie Rehabilitation Centre of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, where Shai was transferred after the evacuation from Soroka, he found new hope. There he continued his therapy – influenced by the two near-death experiences, but more determined than ever.

Then came the moving moment: During a physiotherapy session on the anti-gravity treadmill, Shai stood up and took his first steps since the accident. “Today, for the first time since the accident, I am standing on my own two feet again,” he said, his voice trembling. “I owe it all to the incredible team here at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran.”

Shai Pinker's story is more than a story of survival. It shows what becomes possible when professional help meets unwavering determination.
